The prestigious 'Master Craftsman' Member of the Year annual award for the millennium year 2000 has been awarded to Paddock Bakeries Limited - who are probably better known to their customers as 'Peter Herd of Wilmslow'
In 1996 Peter's daughter Carol Gatto-Hall became Managing Director, from where she led the company into the specialist celebration cake market, appointing Elaine Weatherill to head the department. In 1998 Elaine won the title 'Celebration Cake Confectioner of the Year' award and was also runner-up in 1999. In the same year the Peter Herd of Wilmslow team won the Innovation Award in the 'British Baking Industry Awards'.

The original family business was first established in 1932 in Levenshulme, before moving to Wilmslow in 1950, with additional premises in Heald Green and Handforth being added in 1958 and 1968 respectively.

Over the years the business has been accepted as members of The National Association of Master Bakers, The Flour Milling & Baking Research Association, The Manchester Association of Bakers and The British Richmont Club of Excellence, in addition to Peter Herd winning the Golden Wheatsheaf Special Award for services to the British Baking Industry in 1991.

The philosophy of the business is to provide "a centre of excellence in the manufacturing and retailing of baked goods" coupled with "a service and product that our customers will prize". This commitment to 'Quality' and 'Service', together with their long established reputation for 'Integrity', make Peter Herd of Wilmslow worthy recipients of The Guild of Wedding Professionals 'Master Craftsman' Member of the year award.
